Possible to install Site Publisher w/o a LiveSite Install?

RichDiaz

Is it possible to install Site Publisher w/o a LiveSite Install?

Basically we want to use Site Publisher for the WYSIWYG page development but we will not be using any of the LiveSite functionality because we don't want to deal with upgrades, patches, and TeamSite incompatibilities.

Thanks Smiley Wink

I'm assuming you have an old TeamSite and you don't want to upgrade it but still want to use SitePublisher, sorry that's not how Interwoven makes money Smiley Wink

So if you're trying to install SitePublisher without TeamSite, I believe that is NOT possible.

However if you really meant without LiveSite, then it's a done deal as now what is known as LiveSite is only the runtime that is going to lie on the front-end.
In other words, SitePublisher lives with a TeamSite instance, LiveSite doesn't.

If you have TeamSite 6.5, you can install LiveSite 2.2.1 and you'll have what you want, if you have below 6.5 then I don't know!

RichDiaz

Yea, I should of stated what version: We're using TeamSite 6.71. We own LiveSite 3.0.

We own LiveSite 3.0 but we don't want to fully install it, we just want Site Publisher part WYSIWYG for template creation.

Is this possible or do we need to look for another WYSIWYG solution? If so, any recomendations there?

Thanks! Smiley Wink

well as far as I know SitePublisher is not working without teamsite.
Now I don't really know what you mean by "fully install it", LiveSite on the back-end is basically SitePublisher + some components, which are not mandatory!
You still need components though, that's how LiveSite works ... by putting components on a page! To create the components, you need TeamSite ... hence you need to "fully install it".

See what i mean ?

We want SitePublisher and TeamSite.

We do not want LiveSite.

That make sense? No to LiveSite, Yes to TeamSite, Yes to SitePublisher. Smiley Wink

then you're golden, that's what I said in the first response, it's a done deal!
With LiveSite 3.0, what is called LiveSite is the actual front-end runtime ... so there you have it!

Cool

So we only install the LiveSite Runtime but not the part that attaches to TeamSite. Smiley Very Happy

Based what you said:

We do not want LiveSite.

no, you do exactly the opposite! You install SitePublisher (which will automatically attach itself to TeamSite, follow the instructions during install basically) and you leave LiveSite alone.

I thought it was pretty clear ... sorry if I wasn't!

ah ok! Good! I was hoping SitePublisher was a seperate install from LiveSite.

Hi RichDiaz,

I believe your question is confusing cause of the naming that Iwov has picked for the different LiveSite installs and by changing them from v22 to v30.

SitePub (SP): the LS (backend-)component running on the TS server
LiveSite (LS): the runtime component running on the (public facing) webserver

If you use the same naming conventions as I do then:

I believe the answer to your question is yes:

- you can have SP running on top of TS, use SP for content entry, and then generate the content out to whatever filetype (html, xml, likely aspx, jsp, php, etc)
- have a webserver WITHOUT LS (e.g. without the runtime) serve up the content

The downsite of this scenario is that the generated files are not synchronised with the preso-template if this changes.

Now HOW you this I don't know yet.

Cheers, Ronald

This is exactly what we are looking at. I want to use Site Publisher as authoring interface instead of Form Publisher and would like to product output as .jsp or .xhtml pages. I was looking into site publisher docs but I do not find much information how to do it. Any pointers will be useful for the same.

Issue we have is, our existing TeamSite implementation deploys content to opensource delivery platform. It deploys xhtml fragments and inserts records to database using DD because we have raw XML which we can massage as per our requirements. But I am unable to get the similar content format using SitePublisher currently.

It will be really good if SitePublisher is just the authoring interface and it has similar capabilities of form publisher where it can generate content in any form and it is stored in TeamSite repository in XML form so that it can be sent to any delivery platform as per their requirements.

Will look forward your inputs here!

Do you have the SP module installed? If so then you can play with it yourself. Just create a sample page and then from the UI generate static .html or .jsp files (or any other extension). I would say read up relevant sections in SP User and Dev guide.

jkm

Thanks for your reply ...

I have SP installed on my machine and I can see option to create HTML pages but I am unable to see any option to change this to JSP or ASP page.

Looking into developer guide as well but unable to locate it..appreciate if you can be little more specific for this!

Search these forums -- this topic (about how to generate JSP or ASP page instead of default HTML) has been discussed with correct answer before. I could be wrong but it is also there in the SP Dev guide -- I am not 100% sure on this one though.

I found the thread to generate JSP/ASPs using SitePublisher but unfortunately it will not meet the requirement. I think, I did not state out my requirement clearly in the first post

1) Would like to have the capability to generate files of any extension for a component in the page. Example my page has six components and each component can be generated separately with xhtml extension or jsp extension using Sitepublisher

2) I would like to generate the complete page in two forms, one a complete XML for the page which can be supplied to data deploy and other may be a .html file or .page file just for preview purpose in the teamsite.

Please suggest if this is achievable using SP bearing in mind, our delivery platform will not use livesite.

So are you saying that you have 6 components on a single SP page and you want 6 XHTML/JSP (or some combination) files generated out of single SP page? That is not doable. When you generate, you generate the entire page and not selective a component for this page and a component for that page.

You'll need one SP page for every generated output XHTML/HTML file you need.

Clarify this a little further. What are you trying to do with DD? You already have a .page file and preview is available -- whether you generate HTML files or not.

In the current stage, we have page DCR which is assembling html snippets. Page and content wiring is done using page DCR and it produces HTML snippets for each content item (like promotion, article, quick links etc)

We publish page dcr content to the delivery environment database using data deploy and deploy the html snippets as well. Delivery environment assembles the content again and renders it to live platform.

I am looking for similar capabilities using site publisher so that we can just change the authoring interface and supply the same set of information to portal as we do with forms publisher.

tec_iwov

yes you can use Sitepublisher (Livesite development framework) without installing the runtime (production front end). You will be restricted to pure static content via the Generate HTML functionality.
