“Sorry, Could not connect to Server (HTTP Error No: 401)”

Hi
I installed InDesign plug-in , when I enter User Authentication information,
I get a popup window with the message

Using the same credential ( User name / Password / DomainName) ,
I can log into web client , windows client , Enterprise. I tested /idhttp2mediabin/
and /MediaBinWebService - All the above are working .

I traced the IIS Log files , but I could not find any thing wrong.
MBP . log not showing anything wrong
Enterprise Manger log’s doesn’t help to identify the error

Please let me know any one faced such issues and any log files to
find InDesign PlugIn connection errors.

I am not sure what the answer to your question is. But you can try accessing it from a Windows XP machine and see what happens.

Can you also make sure that you have the "HTTP for InDesign" settings correct?

I followed the steps from HTTPD4ID CS2 User guide for HTTPD settings.
Do you recommend any specific thing that I can refer or Look for setting

Most of the customer using Windows 2000 Adv Server ,
I will try to install it from a windows xp

Playing around the IIS log files helped me to find the issue.

Of Course , it is a security issue , I made proper changes to the

Directory Security [color=darkred]for HTTP2Mediabin virtual directory
[/color]

The issue has been resolved

Hi Srinivas ,

Let me explain in detail.
When I completed the InDesign PlugIn Installation ,

The following applications are Working
MB Enterprise Mgr, MB Windows Client , MB Web Clinet , MB Server

The following applications are [color=black]NOT working

HTTP2Mediabin Webervice and User Authenication (In Side Indesign )

Both shows the MBException: Object reference not set to an instance of an obj error.

This issue has been resolved by following the steps

I cleaned all the .net files from the server / Registry / file system , then Reinstalled IIS and followed

installing .net framework 1.1 first then .net framework 2.0 SP1 and microsoft WSE 2.0 SP 2

(When I googled , some thread mentioned the Object reference can avoid ,

if we do a fresh installation of IIS and other .net files , if it is caused by .net framework files

At this stage my

MB Enterprise Mgr, MB Windows Client , MB Web Client , MB Server, and HTTP2Mediabin Web Service

are working with out any error

But the User Authentication (In Side Indesign ) shows the NEW Error

“Sorry, Could not connect to Server (HTTP Error No: 401)”

Again I experimented like ,enteringthe wrong information (username /Password )

for User Authentication I get some different HTTP Error No. like 405 , etc… I tested the IIS Log file

(system32->LogFiles->W3SVC1) , I can see that the application is communicating with the IIS

and the log file which shows are related with security authentication.

I thought that the Directory Security for HTTP2Mediabin Web Service uses the Integrated Windows authentication,

like the MediaBin Web Servises ( by default it uses basic authentication and Windows authentication ,

that was wrong for me …( I have no idea . this is machine depended or security policy depend )

I checked Anonymous Access and change the anonymous user to the Administrator to the machine.

and unchecked the other too.. , then restated the IIS

At last ….. My User Authentication is working

There are a couple of things to point out.

1. You always have to have .NET framework 1.1 installed. Even if you have higher versions it does not matter. You will always have to configure the virtual directories to run as .NET 1.1. I learnt this the hard way.

2. OOTB MB is all anonymous access. Unless you have both asset server and IIS on the same machine just checking the Integrated windows authentication will not work. And I do not believe the IUSR_MACHINENAME account is in the administrators group by default. You have to check with your server admins and remove it. They might not like you making that account an admin on the server. For anonymous access to work the IUSR account need not be in the admin group.
