Problem with importing .ai files in MediaBin
kalai
Hi
In MediaBin Administrator guide they are clearly specified that the MediaBin supports the file type called *.ai (Adobe Illustrator File).
After uploading the *.ai file then I am not able to preview, rename ,download, copy and move that image in Mediabin. I personally feel that the MediaBin is not recognizing the file type, If it recognizes then we can able to do download, copy and move the file.
Please let me know if anyone has successfully imported .ai files and downloaded the same through media bin. Also, please let me know if superimposing this ai file on any other image is possible.
Any help in this regard is very much appreciated.
Media Bin Version 4.5.3
Operating System Win 2000 SP4
Thanks in advance.
Kalai

Yes, .ai files are supported although in older versions of MediaBin they will appear as pdf's. In 4.6 they appear as type "Illustrator". Note that .ai files (at least recent ones) are actually pdf files and if you rename file.ai to file.pdf they will open readily in Acrobat Reader.
However, under no circumstances does the type of a file have any effect on ones ability to rename, download, etc. The only things affected by the asset type are the asset type metadata, the set of extracted metadata fields and whether or not an asset has a preview. It sounds as if there are worse problems going on of which this is a symptom.
Please open a support case and be sure to provide support with your logs particularly mbp.log.
cheers,
Lyman
