If you are customizing your instantiation screen, the Form API onFormInit event can cause problems if you try writing your own. Don't use this, or if you do, expect weird things to happen, such as multiple containers appearing for one, Javascript errors for elements not existing, etc.

Just call your methods directly, rather than tying them to that event.
