Data Fetch from a DB

TS 6.5 SP2 on WIndows.

I have a simple snippet which works fine in fetching data from database and populating the select box. I am confused on how to set "value" and "label" of each option to be same. I am fetching the entire column into select box but when i select the array element it return the index of that element when i do a getValue on it. Here is my snippet. Please advice.

First - you do not need to define 'regionItem' within the RestrictMe function - it's passed in as a parameter by virtue of the event handler - as long as you declare it in the function definition.

Second - please re-read the FormAPI manual and search the forums for how to retrieve and set select list items -- this has been covered a number of times in the forums and is documented in the manual.

You have the same two issues that I mentioned in my previous response - please re-read the manual and search the forums.
If you were a complete newbie I might spoon feed you the code - but you're not - you've been around here for a while - and I believe you should be able to fix the code yourself with a little more effort on your part.

I do not know if you are set or not, but the IPL you posted was not a callserver, but it looks to be an IPL that runs as an inline.

Are you good to go or do you want to post the callserver code ?

Thank You adam and andy, it took me a while to get back to this. I was sailing smooth on Perl and call server untill i face two issues. As i said before, i am getting an element into the ipl for that i will get an Index and get an other element in that row. In my scenario my element is "Accessories" for some reason the ipl doesn't want to pass this back to Java script. Please advice where i am doing wrong.

OK so I do not have to try to figure out what you probably already know,

what does the log from the callserver show ? I assume it is being called and showing the data it is collecting. Is that data correct ?

Does your alert in TESTFUN ever show ?

Also, this print statement may screw up your callserver return:
print "Index value for $_ is: $indx\n" if ($_ eq '$cgi_region');

That should probably be printing to the log

Yes andy, my alert in Testfun shows up when i played around before i inserted this line.

$cgi_region=@Category[20];

here $cgi_region will have value "Accessories" for some reason this ipl doesn't wanna return this to java script as you can see the error below in the debugger. Is Accessories is a wrong declaration?? please advice.

OK, I am a bit confused, the 1st alert "Hello I am here" shows up and the 2nd one fails ? Or does it show the value of category (which should be Accessories) ? And the IPL log shows "Category is : Accessories" ?

Yea, you are putting in the script tags, just Accessories. That is a syntax error.

Remove $cgi_region from the script tags (or the complete script tags) and tell me what happens

You may need another set of quotes (single) inside the double in the IPL where TESTFUN is called

Thank You Adam for the suggestions and i have corrected myself to get my code working, I have a small problem getting my array to be passed back to the Javascript. I might not explain it more clearly on the terminology ( variable names or array names i am using) but the gist is i want to pass more than one value back to the javascript so that i can set 2 textfields with the value i pass from the IPL. There were no good example of the same over the devenet or in the manual. can you please point me to right example ( not expecting spoon feed) or atleast point me where i am going wrong in the following two code snippets.

You're mixing perl and javascript syntax. Javascript doesn't know anything about

passedarray

$passedarray[0]

- instead you could try just removing the

and

within your TESTFUN function and it might work like that. If not, you'll also have to change where you call TESTFUN from your callserver script to create the javascript array there and pass it (as per the example that nipper referenced)
