Using FrontPage in TeamSite
System
We are using TeamSite 5.0.2 and, while we recommend that our users utilize templates as much as possible, there are some cases where they need a content creation tool. FrontPage is our standard supported tool, but our pilot users are having some issues, specifically pertaining to inserting images and links in FrontPage.
I found a KB article that suggested installing FrontPage server extensions on the TeamSite server. Has anyone done this?
Has anyone else had any experience with using FrontPage with TeamSite? Any best practices?
Thanks a bunch!

Hello,
Could you please post the KB article number? Also could you elaborate on the step you performed to configure TS with Frontpage?

There are a couple of KB articles on the support site that mention Frontpage extensions. If you just search for the word Frontpage, you should get about all you will be able to find on the topic.
We haven't done anything to configure the server yet - we are going through a test plan right now to see what it takes to set it up and support it.

Hello,
Could you please tell me how you plan to use FrontPage? Or what are the issues you are running in to?

We plan to use FrontPage as a content editing tool associated in Launchpad with the user's html, htm, etc. files. We are going to test to see whether Frontpage webs work from within TeamSite as well, since some of our users take advantage of that functionality currently within FrontPage.
The main issues we have are around allowing the user to browse for links or images that may be on their hard drive or in their workarea. Dreamweaver would allow the user to set two roots so that they could browse from the root, but we have not found that Frontpage has the ability to set multiple roots.

I feel that we should be hearing from Interwoven on how to setup/configure MS-Frontpage in a TeamSite environment?

Sorry for the delay in replying. This is what I have done so far on a W2K TS 5.0.2 system.
-Created a test branch called "Test_Frontpage"
-Created a test workarea called "wa1"
-Then mapped a drive from my workstation the to the TS server y: drive.
-Started Frontpage, and created a new 1 page web.
-Copied some images to the image sub-directory in the wa1.
-Added some text and an image in that page.
-Saved it
-Did a preview in FrontPage. Looks good
-Did a preview in TS and it too looks good.
Now if I do get the time, I will try installing the Front Office plugin and see how that works.
Hope that helps.

I would recommend running Launchpad in "Local" mode when using Frontpage. This requires a mapped drive to your workarea in TeamSite.
With a mapped drive, you will have the ability to use all the features of Frontpage. Of course, to preview images those images will need to be imported into the workarea, which Frontpage will do for you.
Interwoven's Virtual Filesystem will allow any tool (Frontpage, Dreamweave, GoLive, etc.) to work with TeamSite without any special customization.
Hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions,
Paul
This works well but we have hit a limitation. It seems that when a user drills down to a certain level within the file system in TeamSite 5.5.1, FrontPage cannot find the page to open it. If the user tries to open the page through the File System there is no problem at all. I have opened a support casse with Interwoven but as of this writing the case hasn't been assigned
