Edition Compare Script (IPL/CGI)

I am trying to develop script to compare two editions wthin a selected branch. I am displaying branches in dropdown and when user selects the branch editions displayed in another dropdown allows user to select source & target.

I want to compare selected editions and dispay result on the screen.

Can anybody guide me to compare edition logic ? I know we can compare them in OD using:

But I have no idea how can I compare them in cgi/ipl script.

Environment : Teamsite 6.1 windows 2000 server

how about using iwcmp ?

Always worked for me - I believe it works at a backing store level so is the most efficient method of comparison.

How to identify new file added in the output ? f+ means file modified as per manual.

f f+ means the file exists in both, modified in the second

- f+ means it does not exist in the 1st, but does (thus is modified) in the 2nd

Well - the latter really means it's new and thus modified in the 2nd. ;-)

and

f x+

means it existed in the first and was deleted in the second

Here is the list of all symbols which denotes addition/deletion/modification or existence of file in source or target. The results can be combination of two. For example f+ means 'File exists with modification'

- File or directory does not exist in this area.
f File exists.
d Directory exists.
s Symlink exists.
+ Item has been modified.
x File or directory has been deleted.
p File or directory is marked private.
