MB Report Views

Is there any KB article or a process to customize Mediab Web Client GUI to show users the MB reports?

For Example: I want to add a menu say "Report Views" by clicking which displays the MediaBin Report Views (grabbing from the database). Sounds similar to Opendeploy reporting feature, right?

What's the best approach for this? Thanks alot.

I am not aware of a KB article that has been published. However, this is a common customization that Interwoven CSO does for various clients. You should be able to do it fairly easily if you have a ASP resource on your team. If you need assistance then please contact Interwoven CSO.

We don't have an asp resource. So, probably contacting Interwoven will be a good choice. But, do we have any documentation/resource anywhere mentioning the details about MB GUI customization?? I would like to know the details before contacting IW.

If there is documentation on this subject matter, please make it publicly known. However, I have never seen doco on this matter and because the technology is old school asp, I can't image that they are going to spend much time documenting the old code.

I have been fumbling and stumbling through the code trying to figure out the heads and tails. In many cases, we have created our own c# /asp.net interfaces on the MBPNetmodel.dll for our specific needs.

On the flip side of the coin, a good question for iwov development, are you moving forward on a new web interface and when will it be done?

Hi everyone. The Report Views have always targeted a different set of users than the web client. In particular they require direct DB access which is something that we do not generally allow in default configurations.

The report views are designed to allow third party tools such as Crystal Reports to access the data from behind a firewall. The reports are oblivious to any MediaBin security and even getting access to them bypasses all of our security checks.

There is no particular document that talks about MB GUI customizations and that is pro'ly because IWOV provides API and you can code using them in your language of choice.

As Stacy mentioned it can be quite an effort to figure out the head and tail of things in the OOTB web client code. However, we do it fairly regularly.

I have to second what Lyman said here. When we add that extra menu item in the web client for report views the usual requirement is that the menu item be enabled for users who are part of the MBPAdmin group or something similar.

The MediaBin Asset Server Administrator's Guide for 4.6/4.6.1 contains a chapter (Appendix D) on MediaBin Report Views. But again, as Lyman has pointed out, MediaBin Report Views are mainly for admin users having direct access to the back-end database.
