Membership metals and gems used as currency

System

It's great that fish has 4 diamonds but I'm wondering if such a conversion option is available to those who have fewer posts than 10,000.

For instance, could I have an emerald and a bar of platinum for my posts and IW can keep the change? Or, maybe I could exchange a diamond for the icon for Member or Enthusiast, which is a cheerful little guy at a desk. Maybe I could get 25 little guys for a diamond and they could do my work for me??? Actually, the Enthusiasts have both arms up in jubilation so they don't appear to be DOING any work and the Member has one arm up. Hey, what about 100 Common Users? They look serious and like they're doing something!

And hey, what's the deal with the New User icon, anyway? That looks like child labor to me.

I think you need some work to do. Though this change did **** me out. I am a few hundred posts from double diamond and thought I would tie Adam.

And by some of the questions I have seen from New Users, the child labor reference seems appropriate. In fact, I think I get more intelligent questions at home from the short set than I see on here sometimes.

But morally and mathemtically, I don't think we could use a "New User" as currency. Let's face it, they're represented as children and besides, the qualifying post count for that is zero.

I'm glad that we narrowly averted a child labor controversy on DevNet. Maybe the "New User" pic should have a screen capture of "Second Life" on the computer screen or something. That might be more appropriate.

Color me confused - I just checked the Members List and it still shows me as simply "2nd life diamond" - where's the "4 diamonds"? (I might find out after I make this post?)

Frankly - given that they haven't been able to come up with a good alternative to the existing system - adding additional "jewels" to the level (e.g.: 4 diamonds instead of "2nd life diamond") seems like a somewhat reasonable way to do it.

I also have no idea where these icons are coming from that you showed... maybe I'll find that out after this post too?

Nope - I still just see "2nd life diamond"

In your dreams buddy - I'd have to be comatose for about 4 years for you to catch up ;-)

Ah - thanks. It would be nicer if that information / indication was present directly in the forum post headings ...

Tie meant same level, not another 7000 posts. Smiley Very Happy
