Question about the locktask

For some reason, I cannot get a locktask to work the way that I believe it should work (so the problem may be mine...)

Here is the task :

description = "Place a Workflow Lock on All Files Attached to Workflow">

The sucess works fine, but when the lock task fails to get a lock on the submitted files, it simply goes into a delay of some kind. Once those files are unlocked (by another workflow), it then kicks off the success.

But, I want it to transition to the following on failure :

Trying to say modified files or submitted files only?

Once those files are unlocked (by another workflow), it then kicks off the success.

It means you are trying perform a locktask action over the already locked files?

I want it to put a lock on all of the files that are attached to the workflow (sorry about the confusion.)

This is working fine when it can put a lock on them.

But, if a subsequent user attaches those files to a new instance of the workflow, that job will just sit at the locktask (above) until the initial workflow finishes (and unlocks the files.)

I want the subsequent user's workflow to transition on failure to a subsequent task that tranisitions to an end task (i.e. I want that workflow to fail and clear out.)

Does that make sense?

Example :

Joe User selects the following files in his workarea and kicks off a new workflow :

/delivery/payments.jsp
/delivery/customer_service.jsp
/delivery/index.jsp

The workflow hits the locktask and successfully puts a lock on all of the files above, subsequently transitioning to an external task that deploys the files to a QA web instance. Joe User begins to review his files on the web site.

Pat Troublesomeuser decides that she wants to push out the exact same files (listed above.) She selects the files and kicks off a workflow.

The workflow gets to the locktask and simply sits there. It appears to me that the locktask is failing, but instead of transitioning to the task identified in the element, it simply waits.

Once Joe User likes his files in QA, he clicks 'approve' on a usertask and the files go through the rest of the workflow and the locks are removed.

Subsequently, Pat Troublesomeuser's workflow puts a lock on the file and goes forward. It seems to simply be waiting for the lock to be removed before it moves on. I want it to transition to the task.

Is the issue in decalring the lock task element with proper attribute values.. or else??
