datasource configuaration in site publisher

I am writing simple db program external class which establishes db connection and fetches some rows from database. My question is where does data source configuration file resides? Do I have to configure (manually enter) or it will be configured when I install product. I am using TS 6.7.1 and LS 3.0.
Please forward if you have any sample code for db component.
