installation failure on vmware w2k3 sp2
linuxarchitect
I can't get metatagger or mtstudio to install on a vmware system. Both die after extracting files and briefly displaying the Interwoven logo. Any ideas?
This is with 412Build64930 on a vmware windows 2003 server with service pack 2. The same exe installs fine on my desktop win XP pro system.

Is there a log snippet somewhere which spits out any problem encountered by the installer?

.Which VMWare product are you running ? Workstation,Server or ESX.
2.
Do you have VMWare tools installed & adequate RAM for this VM ?
3.
Does the VM meet the compatibility Req. for MT install ?
MT-412 Server unlike MT-411 should install on Win03 SP2 .
MT 412 Studio should be on a Client(Not Server) OS like XP-SP2.

This is on vmware esx; the vm has 2G of memory with no other applications installed and vmware tools installed.
I thought mtstudio was installed on the server so that it could be downloaded to the client, but perhaps that happens as part of the metatagger installation. So that isn't an issue.

I seem to remember that DEP (data execution protection - a feature introduced in w2k3sp1) prevents the installer from correctly bootstrapping. If you disable it for non-Windows components, things should work fine. DEP can get in the way of Java stuff that does just-in-time compilation (JIT), which translated java bytecodes to native instructions in the data segment, then executes them.
If you need DEP to be on, you should register all the MT exes in \bin and \private\java\bin.
