viewdoc.aspx opens document in browser

I'm using the following URL to access a document via worksite web:

http://sydintranet/knowledgebase/scripts/viewdoc.aspx?nrtid=!nrtdms:0:!session:gadsydsrv-20:!database:Knowledge:!document:19129,1:&ishtml=1&command=ok

Unfortunately it opens the document inside Internet Explorer, when I actually need it to open in the native application - Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat etc.

I'm sure its not a client setting, as other web document links open correctly in their application.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Unfortunately ViewDoc.aspx cannot be used directly to download a document and open it in its native format. You need a browser-based control (ActiveX or applet) in the middle to intercept the file and open it on the client machine. If you are using WSW 8.1 you can call downloadExView(). Let me know and I will provide a snippet on how to set up your HTML page to use this functionality.

If you are using WSW 8.2, we now provide a file called FileControlDownload.aspx that will send the document to the browser. The browser then prompts the user to open or save the file. I have attached a simple HTML file that you can use. The best way to use this ASPX page is by opening it in a new window and then closing the window. This will prevent the user from getting one of those ugly 'Action Cancelled' messages in the browser.
