using MediaBin to output html for email campaign

dgordon

I'm trying to determine whether we can use MediaBin to automate the creation of a series of html emails. I need to create an html-based email that will contain a header (including 1 of 2 client logos, a background color, and recipient name and member number), a central portion (including several images, 2 of which are customized per email campaign), a lower central portion (including another dynamic image and dynamic copy), and a footer with copy that may or may not be dynamic per email campaign.

I will have 3 teams involved in creating this campaign - an off-site group which will select the appropriate images and create the dynamic copy for the campaign, an internal user who will create 3 additional images based on the information coming from the off-site group, and an operations team which will insert the member name and number into the header and pass on the html to the email vendor to send out to recipients.

Is it possible to do the following with MediaBin:
1. ingest an XML file from the off-site team (we do not currently have off-site access to MB) containing the specs for the campaign and use that to create the dynamic copy portions of the email
2. email a portion of the XML file to the internal user who will create the dynamic images using either Photoshop or MB (XML file will contain the price and cities which will be incorporated into the image using a custom font)
3. assemble the various components of the email into html format
4. incorporate JavaScript or XML to insert the email recipient's name and member number into the final html
5. if html output is not possible via MB, could MB generate the final output in pdf format (minus the email recipient's info)

Thanks in advance for any insights or suggestions to solve this problem.

I do not think this is possible with MB standalone. However, I can envision TeamSite and MediaBin fulfilling this requirement well. DCRs are essentially XML files.

Can I set up a layered PSD file that will automatically replace a text layer with text in an XML format such that MB will automatically ingest the text and replace it in the PSD, and then output as a jpg? I'd also like to send out an email once MB ingests this XML text file and outputs the jpg.

What version of MB are we talking about?

dgordon

This is version MB 4.5.3

The PSD text layer replacement is certainly possible and your requirement can be done using an external script.

The script reads the XML file and gets the text that needs to go to the PSD. Using the MB task it would then create the jpg and put it in a particular location. At the end it can kick off an e-mail once this is done.

Please contact CSO if you need help with this.

I'm sorry, CSO?

Does your organization own TeamSite? It would be easier from a maintenance standpoint. Just thinking, because we are also trying something similar, but never thought of doing it from only MB.

Yes, we're running TS 6.7. We initially thought of MB to generate the "dynamic" images ("fly from Oslo to London for $345") because the copy will change from campaign to campaign, and because a custom font is required so we can't use straight html. Someone in our organization wanted to use MB for the entire thing so as to avoid using XSLT and to aid in automating the process.

the font changes,
and the Campaign slogan (??) changes,
and the price changes,

It would seem that this could constitute a DCT with a MediaBin Browser to grab the image, generate the HTML, and send the email via a simple workflow.
That way, you could implement an intelligent workflow for validation of email ids/lists, locations/pricing, etc.

How would that position itself vis a vis the MB ONLY solution?
