Upgrading VisualFormat from TS 5.5.2 to TS 6.7.1

Yes...I know we're waaay behind the curve, and 5.5.2 is no longer supported. So we're making the jump from TS 5.5.2 on Solaris to 6.7.1 on Linux...

Until now, I'd been ignoring VisualFormat and just editing DCR's on 6.7.1 in textareas while I concentrated on other issues in the migration. Now I'm looking at VisualFormat and experiencing some difficulties as the upgraded VisualFormat on 6.7.1 affects VisualFormat on 5.5.2. Specifically, the options to bold and italicize text and apply styles through the dropdown don't appear in 5.5.2

With my testing of upgrading to 6.5, there never was a conflict with 5.5.2, so I was (naively) hoping that the 6.7.1 upgrade would be the same.

For me personally, it's not an issue. I can go into mode and bold/italicize things as necessary. But not for my content editors, who I'd kind of like to test the thing out.

Anybody else encounter these issues? Any suggestions for making VisualFormat for TS6.7.1 functional under 5.5.2? (In our environment, workstations are locked down, so users can't install and uninstall the ActiveX controls themselves. Talking to the people who administer the software packages, the new version replaces all of the older files, and so it doesn't appear that the two versions can coexist...)

Man, you are hosed. BTW, why don't you ship down one of your extra solaris boxes to AZ, my old Sparc 5 is slow. :-)

You may want to check out Ektron's web site. TS 6.7 used an updated (from 5.5 and 6.5) version of eWebEditPro (aka VFE) and the board their may help.

& trust me I know what you feel like, I have a number of end users who do not have and cannot install Java.

You can also user TinyMCE, which is not an activeX but a java app. I think it has some issues still but it *could* be another option.

I'm not positive but I believe somewhere between 5.5.2 and 6.x the location of the VFE config file changed - so you may have two versions (your 5.5.2 version and your 6.7.1 version) on the system and only the latter is being referenced.

I traced this back to actbar2.ocx, which is actualy developed by a company called Data Dynamics and is used by Ektron (which is in turned used by Interwoven...)

TeamSite 6.7.1 packaged eWebEditPro 4.3, which uses actbar2.ocx build 2.5.2.118 . TeamSite 5.5.2 packaged eWebEditPro 2.6.0.7 which uses actbar2.ocx build 2.0.1.1019. I'm assuming TeamSite 6.5 packages some pre-4.3 version of eWebEditPro, hence the reason why eWebEditPro/VisualFormat were able to coexist in prior versions of Interwoven.

I'm experimenting with using the older version of actbar2.ocx and initial testing looks promising. Both 5.5.2 and 6.7.1 seem to be functioning as expected, though Ektron's site suggests that rather than use the older version of actbar2.ocx, you should use a batch script to toggle between the incompatible versions.
