When creating a New Data Record, in the Create New Data Record window, say we have something like this
Category: Extranet Type: Customer
Category: Extranet Type: Supplier
Category: Extranet Type: Other
Category: Intranet Type: Finance
Category: Intranet Type: HR
Category: Intranet Type: Legal
Category: Internet Type: PressRelease
Category: Internet Type: Other
Category: Internet Type: Generic
I'm having about three templates in each category here. When I have about 10 or 15 templates in each category, the list grows very big. Is there a way to kind of folderize them, say three top level folders, one for Internet, one for Extranet & one for Intranet and clicking on them should provide the list of templates within them.
A note: I'm still on a older version of TeamSite, (4.5). So, I don't know if anything has changed in 5.0 or 5.5.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

With templating you only get two levels of naming (category and type). However, you can name a category and a type anything you want to. The trick is to choose your naming convention so that you get the desired number of template types per category.
You can not folderize the templates beyond the category/type folders because of how templating works. It expects to see a file named datacapture.cfg in the "type" folder under each "category" folder -- and that is your DCT. To add more folder levels, would break the templating model.
You may need more descriptive category names.
On the flip side, you can always limit the number of templates seen based on user names, roles, and branch/workarea locations. This is all handled in the templating.cfg file.

I wish their was a way to give a category an associated "ID" number along with the name. Just another attribute of category. I'm not sure how templating parses the xml file, but it would be nice to use the same category names across different branches.
In my situation we have completely different websites which I'd like to keep a uniform "Templates" category names. Alas that is not possible and I have to go the less desired "Templates_ProjectName" convention. No biggie, but not uniform for our designers.
Architecture wise I'm sure it would be a major change, but you can always wish for things right?
