how to get warnings in tpls

hi all,
how do i get the warnings like
(Useless use of private variable in void context at (eval 97) line 200.)
when generating the tpl files can i use iwpt_compile.ipl command to see warnings ??

There si no way as such to see the warning, rather you can use iwpt_output to out put ypur results through out the tpl and see if it is good for you. iwpt_compile is a compilation tool to check the correctnes of your tpl code.

Your presentation template is an arbitrary program, you can do what you want there. That includes running iwpt_compile against self, no problem.

However, if you are trying to get Template compilation errors in this manner, that's the cat chasing its own tail. Note that because of *two Phase*
nature of PT processing, formal Perl "Warnings" can well be PT Errors preventing it from running. If there are errors, template won't run and won't
be able to execute iwpt_compile against itself to show you errors, etc...

To be sure, there are ways to break this logical circle. Before going there though it would be nice to know what is the problem you are trying to solve.

evals make it difficult to determine the proper line number associated with the warning - you can try using iwpt_compile.ipl's -ocode option and start from there - but it might be simpler to just walk through your code and "play computer" to see if you can figure out where the warning is coming from.

If you really don't care - you can probably put the pragma

no warnings;

into the Perl part of your PT and avoid seeing them - but I consider that a last resort...

so is there a way i can figure out that kind of warnings.?

Have you tried using iwpt_compile.ipl's -ocode foo.ipl flag and then try running foo.ipl from the command line to see if you get the same warning?

If so - it should be easier to debug - however the 'eval(...)' piece in the warning message makes it more difficult - I'm not sure, but I think the line number you'll see there is the line number of the eval and not the line number of the actual code being eval'd where the warning is coming from - but if you spend some time with it you should be able to debug it to figure out the actual source of the warning message.
