External task running very very slow

Hi,

We recently moved TeamSite to a new Server with same config.. Solaris 9, 4CPU 16GB RAM - TeamSite 6.5 SP2 . But an external task called from a Workflow is taking around 8 hours to finish on the new server whereas it would take less than 2 hours on the old server.

Any suggesion/advice as to why the external task would be running slow ?

Having seen this before, I dealt with it the old fashioned way, debugging. Put some debug statements with timestamps in. By comparing to the "control" server, you can tell where the delays are happening. Hopefully you can narrow it down from there.

In my case it was due to a network config (DNS) timeout which added 1 minute to every network call.

There may be number of reasons as why the script is taking so long as compared to the existing infra. My suggestion is to check the config file and your script ... to do some debugging.

Also make sure there are not 2000000 hung tasks, that tends to slow things down a bit. What kind of external task is taking 2 hours? If you can get a little more specific on what it does (without giving away top secret material), it may be easier to guess why it is going slow.
