Creating template to Generate a Page that Displays a list of links to Press Releases

I was wondering if anyone could point me in how I would create a template that would create a page that would have links to webpages (that have been generated from dcrs).

I created a template that would look through the DCR's in a directory and display information from that DCR but what I really want to do is to create a page with links to the pages that have been created.

Are there any examples anyone knows of? I guess I could look through a directory that contains the generated pages but I do not know how to then get the DCR information.

I *think* there is an example of this in the examples directory. But I certainly hope you study some Perl manuals, because this will require a non-trivial amount of Perl.

Are you trying to extract DCR location from HTML - or trying to build a reference to HTML files by extracting them from a DCR or calculating what they would be based on the DCRs that exist?

If you have a 1:1 mapping of directories and file names with respect to DCRs and their generated output - you can recurse through the data directory and derive the URIs for the pages generated from those DCRs and format them any way you want.

Whether you do this with a PT - or with a distinct Perl script is up to you (personally, I'd choose the latter)

If you don't have the 1:1 mapping (bit mistake IMO) then it becomes much more difficult - you would probably have to recurse through the directories where the generated files are and check the EAs on each file to see if it was a generated page and if it was generated from the specific DCR you're interested in - at that point, hopefully you can figure out the URI for each of those files that meet your criteria.

The more detailed your design / requirements are - the simpler the implementation will be -- though it still assumes you know how to code.

I ended up looping through the dcr directory and then hardcoding the directory to the html pages so that I could create the href links.

What I wanted to do was not hardcode the directory to the html files but I never found out how to extract the dcr from the html.

Generated Assets normally have the following Extended Attributes(EAs):
  TeamSite/Templating/Encoding
  TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryDCR
  TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryDocumentType
  TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryPT

So, to get HTML's DCR you may want to try something like the following:
  my $DCR = qx(iwhome/bin/iwextattr -g TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryDCR GeneratedFileVPath 2>&1);
  print "$DCR\n";

I find it easier to look through a list of DCRs, then calculate the HTML name and URL. Of course, I do not let my users name the HTML so this works great.
