parsing , modify it then copying a dcr in perl script ??

hi everybody,

i have a scenario which i want to copy a dcr from one branch to another branch but before doing that i need to parse through the xml and modify it then copying to the other branch .

here is the code below



 for my $file (@files)
          {


            my $orginal_dcr = "$area$file";
            open DCR, "$orginal_dcr";
          while (){ $xml .= $_; }
          close DCR;
          #my $rootnode = TeamSite::XMLnode->new($xml);

the code above is in copy.ipl file that i run using a workflow

i need to know is it possible to parse the dcr and modify it then copying as i did above ?? i am guessing the mistake i am make is at the my $modified_dcr = $rootnode->get_xml(); part

or

any help would be appreciated.

A couple points.

1st, do you want the original changed ? If so, then modify and copy. Otherwise, copy then modify.

2nd, I am not certain iwupdate is the correct command to use. It *used* to be for forcing a Get Latest on other workareas. That being said, the CLT manual refers that it can act like Copy To, which implies your use is proper. Again I am not certain about this behavior

3rd, you may want to read $xml, regex it to $newxml and then write $newxml to the new location.

That may be easier than what you are doing.

1- i want to modify then copy.

regarding ur third point . actually that is what i am not sure how exactly to do it .

here in this line : my $orginal_dcr = "$area$file";

i am read $xml, and write it to $newxml .

in this line : my $modified_dcr = $rootnode->get_dcr();

i am creating a new xml file

and here : my $cmd = "/usr/iw-home/bin/iwupdate -r -w $vpath_from/$modified_dcr $vpath_to";

i am copying it to the dst_location.

i need to know what i am missing right here plz, ...

can u elaporate more Andy or any one who done something similar... ( help boris pls)

that is not correct.

Assuming you have change correcly the xml in $newxml,

then

open (OUT, ">$area$file") || die "Failed to open $file for write ($!)\n";
print OUT $newxml;
close (OUT);

That writes $newxml to the file. (whether the data you desire is there or not is questionable).

Then you can try the iwupdate

i put some debugging lines in my script and i found that the scripts stops at this line

my $rootnode = TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

CRnode->($xml);

even if i used

my $rootnode = TeamSite::XMLnode->new($xml);

it exits as soon as it gets to this line. by the way , the iwupdate is working just fine but once i add code for parsing the dcr it then it doesn't execute iwupdate cmd because it doesn't get to it

Sure it does, you have to parse your XML first

use TeamSite::XMLparser;
use TeamSite:CRnode;
my $parser = TeamSite::XMLparser->new();
. . .

my $rootDCRNode = $parser->parse($xml, 'dcr');
if (defined $rootDCRNode) {
   # Process root Node
}
else {

Content entered in Brazil must have a "Send to Mexico" Button. Content gets sent to a separate Mexico repository.
Content in the repository mentioned above gets translated (manually) and "Add to Mexico" button adds the content to their workflow etc...
In addition - there needs to be a "Send to Argentina" button. Content gets sent to a separate Argentina repository.
Content in the repository mentioned above gets "washed" and "Add to Argentina" button adds the content to their workflow etc...

Do you need to add these button(s) to:
a) Generated Page(s) Or
b) Data Capture Form (DCT, not DCR!) Or
c) Some WorkFlow Tasks Or
d) none of the above?

If the answer is "a" you would do it in presentation template, "b" means perhaps FormAPI and/or callout(s),
"c" - Workflow instantiation screen and/or CGI tasks. Whatever your scenario, DCR modifications alone
can not add any button to any GUI.

boris, i am using a workflow which is not hard to do . i already created it and i am using a CGI task which is executing a .ipl script for me.

the script basically takes the attached dcr , then parses it , clear some of the values in this dcrs then copy the newModified dcr to another branch . ( dont worry about the buttons yet )

again , the script cant parse this file that is attached to this workflow. but if i
referred to another file, or files the script goes and parses these files , modify them and copy them to the right location.

=> my $orginal_dcr = "$area$file"; # doesnt work
$test_file = "templatedata/content/feature_groups/data/test.dcr" ;
=> my $nonAttached_file = "$area$test_file"; # works

the obstacle that i am facing is : i cant parse or modify the file(s) that is attached to this workflow ...!!

I'm no psychic and have no way of knowing what does that mean. You'd have to debug your own code and start asking better questions
than "My code does not work, do you know why?" If I were you, I would double check the following, logging information along the way:

1. Are you able to read the File (perhaps it's just locked in the WF and "Open" Fails in the mode you've chosen). Log the reading buffer and $!.
2. Are you able to parse the File? If you are not sure, use TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

Alternatively, you may use "eval" Perl function and log/validate $@ special variable instead
3. Are you able to modify parsed Node? Use "eval", log $@.

1- yes i can read the file.
2- i cant parse the file that is attached to my workflow .. however if i tried to parse a different dcr that is in my workarea , the parsing goes successfully , i also write the new modified dcr to my workarea or a different workarea succussfully.
3 - again i can modfiy the parsed node but not for the attached file/dcr , only for $non_attarched_dcr .

How do you know? You did not even bother to check 'open' command return. Have you logged $xml? $attached_dcr? Anything at all?

You seem to be very sure that your code dies here. Why do you think so? Is there any corroboration? If it is, you'd have to find out what the parsing Error is.
Have you encapsulated 'new' into 'eval' brackets? Have you logged $@? Anything at all? Perhaps you've tried DCRparser and logged parsing error
(DCRparser::get_error) message, if any?

3 - again i can modify the parsed node but not for the attached file/dcr.

Have you encapsulated 'set_inner_xml' into 'eval' brackets? Have you logged $@? Anything at all?
Have you verified that you can write into the same File? Is it locked?

In 4 days, did you accomplish any debugging at all for a dozen lines of code?
