onReplicantAdded handler not firing

I have a replicant called repResType. I want to trigger a function call when a new replicant is added. I've added the following code to the datacapture.cfg

IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/repResType", "onReplicantAdded",populateCats);

The populateCats function just executes an alert

The alert will not trigger ever if I try to add a replicant to the middle of the list. If I add to the end of the list, I need to add two before the alert appears.

Here are two funky things I am doing ...

When the page loads, I remove all entries in the replicant using:
while(IWDatacapture.getItem("/repResType").deleteInstance(1));

Then I load the replicant again from the database via an inline cgi call which populates a javascript array. This all works correctly as I see the correct number of entries in the replicant. I've checked the replicant counts after the delete (0 items) and after the db load (11 items). Once the page appears, I have the correct number of replicant items with data from the database. I don't understand why the item handler is not working for added replicant items in the middle of the list, and at teh end of the list only after two are added.

how about:

IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/Root/repResType", "onReplicantAdded",populateCats);

and to be clear, you are expecting it to fire when a user adds a new replicant and not when your other JS runs, correct ?

That is correct. When the user clicks the +, I want the javascript executed.

Attached is the datacapture.cfg. The javascript references arrays build by the inline cgi call to resourceTypeReplicant.cgi.

That is not a DCT. Do you use an inline to create the DCT ?

He said the alert does not show, so I did not think this was the issue.

Also, where are you registering the trigger, on the FormInit event ? That is the standard

One thing I noticed ... If you go to the bottom of the replicant and click +, the event doesn't fire. If you go to the newly added replicant and click the +, it does fire.

Also, if you do the same thing in the middle of the replicant, the event never fires.

I register the trigger in the cfg file by calling the javascript function initializeDCT(). Within this function is the call to register the event.

In your DCT you have:

...
 initializeDCT();

Try changing that to:

...
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onFormInit", initializeDCT);

Not sure if it will fix your problem - but it is generally the correct way to call your initialization routine.
