Making at least 1 item in container required

Is there a way to make at least 1 item inside a container element required as opposed to making all the items required? I'd like to use something like a required 'OR' logic.

I don't know of a way at data entry time. At generation time you could put a big red X as the page if one isn't fill in.

That would get their attention.

You might want to take a look at FormAPI. you can do things like cross field validation using the javascript api provided.
