Integrating Teamsite with SAP Portal

Hi all,

Currently we are starting a Project to implement a SAP Portal for all our employees. At the moment we have an Intranet which is managed by Teamsite. This intranet should be replaced with the Portal.

We are now faced with the question on how to manage the content of the Portal in the future. According to IW there is no easy way to publish content from Teamsite to the SAP Portal. They recommended to build some custom interfaces.

Even if this is not the preferred way of doing this, is there anybody who did this already? Or are there other ways to bring content to the Portal?

Basically we are looking for functionality like provided by FIRSTspirit (http://www.firstspirit.de/internet/en/presse/News.html#news545).

Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

Aren't portals used to integrate a wide variety of systems by writing custom portlets?

Aren't portals also just web applications? If you see it that way, you can have TeamSite write to a database and have the web application read content from the database.

There's aslo Interwoven TeamPortal which I don't know what exactly it is but maybe it can do the trick.

It depends on how you want to integrate these two.
You can publish content from Interwoven to any server, database, etc. It depends how you configure your SAP portal to use this content.
For eg: If your SAP Portal has iViews which reads content from XML, deploy the XML content to SAP portal from TS.
However, it is not easy to implement virtualisation, in case you are planning to use.

Our goal is to replace our huge intranet (which is currently mainly used for information sharing, document downloads etc) with a Portal to allow role based access to all the information, personalized content delivery. Another goal of the portal is of course a single sign on into many of our applications. But this is not really affecting Teamsite, or the content managed with Teamsite.

The solution you mentioned was also suggested by Interwoven, but my question would be if this has already been done? Or am I the first try to implement something like this. IW was very unsure on this topic, and is a little bit hesitant to support us on this topic,

You can use TeamSite with Websphere Portal as well as SAP Portal. There are different ways to use it. I have used it with both.

As suggested above, you can deploy your data to database and read it from Portal OR you can deploy your data to XML / HTML and use it through iViews... Currently we are doing some R&D to use the second option.

But in any of the case you won't be able to avail SSO (single sign on).. I hope this feature will come in next versions of TeamSite...
