OD error - Could not open temporary file

Hi,
I am facing a problem in OD. It was deploying fine to the receiver web server. Today, it showed following error,
BEGINNING Transactional Deployment
LIB: 2007-11-19 15:10:38
Receiver-ERROR: ERROR: Could not open temporary file(/var/tmp/iwdirCEJ2FgajL).
LIB: 2007-11-19 14:57:57 ERROR: Failed to begin transaction.
It is throwing error, right after starting the transactional deployment. I do not know, if OD creates any such file for making it transactional. Also, the filename gets changed in log file, every time i tried to deploy.
I checked the location at receiver, there are many iw* files under that folder. But, not the file mention in the log.
Anyone has any clue, why this is happening.

Source, OD 6.0.1 on windows server 2003
Rcvr : OD 6.0.2 on sun os

thanks for your reply.
I checked the folder size with df and it shows avail as 0%. So, that might be a problem. This is the first thing I should have check.. but i was lazy.. my mistake..
I will make some space in that folder and test it. Before that, can you tell me, what is the significance of that temp file? Do I need to backup them before delete ?
Also. one thing about unix. I work on windows and do not count much on unix.
Can we assign size for specific folder in unix or does df shows a mounted drive size? In windows, it folder size grow till the drive is full.

There is a KB (albeit fairly old) that talks about it. Try searching support. It was not super helpful, IIRC. You can blow those old ones away, maybe only the ones older than a week.

I do not remember if this is configurable, but it certainly should be. OD may read the TMP env variable or use a flag on deploy.cfg.

Hi,
I got the free space for the server now. But now, its throwing following error.
OpenDeploy server host: localhost, RMI registry port: 9173
***ERROR - Could not establish RMI connection to the OpenDeploy server. Please check that the OpenDeploy server is running.
I do not have any idea, what makes this error to come.
I have faced this error long time back on windows server. Making service restart resolved the problem. But now, I am facing this issue on a Unix box. And even after making the service restart is not making the service up. What can b the possibility for this error ?
Can anyone help me with this ?

That certainly smells like the send is not responding. what does iwodserverstatus say ?

Check the access service as well.

You can also telnet to the receiver on the OD port to see if it connects, that will indicate if the receiver is on the port you were planning.

FYI, I have noticed on my VMWARE instance, (Win2K, TS 6.7.1 SP1) I need to run iwreset -a to get OD to work (after a suspend/restore)

Hi nipper,
iwodserverstatus was throwing the same error. I tried to telnet required port but it was failed. After that, I asked the Unix team to restart the service. Now, I am not getting that error. iwodserverstatus is showing OD server as alive.
But, now I am getting following error.

get the logs from the sender and receiver and post them, the errors you posted do not show much

Also, did the admin team restart the receiver or just the sender ? You will probably want the receiver restarted as well.

Hi nipper,
I got that. It was a problem because receiver was working in transaction with one more server and OD receiver on that server was not working. Both the services are restarted and they are working fine now.
Though, I did not get the exact reason for the RMI error, I will try to make some search on it.

Also - check the ports you are using for OD and verify that there isn't anything else running on those servers that is using the same ports.

This includes the RMI ports as well as the actual deployment ports.
