Latest Version of Sun JRE Supported?

Once again, Sun JRE is being updated in our environment (TS 6.7.1)...
Is Sun JRE 1.5.0.12 on the clients ok to use with TeamSite? Please advise.

Are you guys actually going to upgrade the installation of the JRE that Interwoven ships with TeamSite? If so-- why?

Or are you just upgrading the JRE version in some other installation you use for some other application(s) running on your TeamSite server?

If it's the latter, I'm not sure you'll need to worry about it.

The upgrades would be on the client side (laptops and desktops) as part of our on-going efforts to keep our machines up to date (this is controlled by another internal group).

If Sun JRE 1.5.0.12 causes problems with TeamSite, we can ask them to hold the update push.

While it may not be an issue, we have had some users becoming concerned.

I think concern is warranted.
Check with Support about which versions of TS support the newer JRE - (6.5 SP3 + ???, 6.7.1 SP1 + ???) - and what "newer" version of the JRE they support (since it is rarely the bleeding edge version).

Whether it works is one Q, whether is it is supported is another.

On my system, I have java configured to autoupdate. Why ? because someone else will and I need to know if there will be problems.

Currently I am at 1.6.0 (build 1.6.0_02-b06)

The only issue I have seen so far is that you need to restart the browsers to use launchpad after an update.

I asked the same question of Interwoven support this week, as the "Compatability Matrix":

explicitly specifies the supported (clientside) JRE for TS 6.5, 6.7 with IE SP2...but not for 6.7.1.

Anyway, for what it's worth, here is their response:

MY-QUESTION: (i) ....I am unsure what JVM is supported for IE6 SP2 on Windows XP SP2? Could you please clarify?

ANSWER: >>> From my check, I would say that it is very unlikely that the SP2 of IE6.0 will affect the behavior of the plugin JVM. So whatever works for IE6.0 SP1, should work the same in IE6.0 SP2. Thus, in Teamsite 6.7.1, the supported SUN JVM can be 1.4.2 or 1.5.

AND >>> I have believed that you are refer to SUN JVM 1.6 and from my understanding, there is no formal certification has been done between Teamsite and SUN JVM 1.6. The latest version which supported is SUN JVM 1.5, and this is compatible in Teamsite 6.7.1.

Interestingly, there is no mention of any JRE except 1.4.2 in the compatability matrix. But I am taking the above response as a "tacit" approval of JRE 1.5. We use both 1.4.2 and 1.5 and we have small "niggly" little problems....no showstoppers. Little things like the explorer tree not rendering perfectly every time.

Oh...here is a further response from IWOV support (rec'd this afternoon), specifically about SUN JRE 1.5:

Yes we are aware that 1.5 is supported, but what about the micro versions, such as 1.5.0.12 ? Again we need to verify that there are no issues.

Just wish we could be better kept up to date on what versions of Sun JRE can/cannot be used - with TeamSite including the micro versions. This is not the first time this type of question / issue came up. We had some issues a while back regarding Sun JRE versions 1.4.2.****.
