XML quality in tsgroups.xml

I am doing some cleanup jobs in tsgroups.xml
... and what caught my attention -

the XML tags in it cannot be in a short form, if tag does not have a value -

e.g.

[user name="gzevi001"]
[/user]

instead of

[user name="gzevi001"]

(I substituted angle quotes with square ones, to bypass the stupid functionality)

This applies to all the tags.
If one changes to the short form, the system will read the file Ok, but if you make a change via the Admin tab, all the tags will revert to long form.

Hence - I have a question, especially to IWOV engineering - why is that? It's quite tedious to look at the groups file, especially if it's large.
Most of XML tools/editors take liberty to shorten XML, but here I see just the opposite.....:eek:

I assume your example was meant to be the ability to change something like:[html]
[/html]to[html][/html]yes?
Presumably, the DTD (or code used to approximate the DTD) does not declare the user element to be #EMPTY and thus it "fixes" the elements to be container elements.

I'm not saying you're wrong about it being questionable - just providing my guess as to the "why" regardless of whether it really makes sense.

Let me then rephrase my 'why' . If what you are describing iIS the case, why not to define an empty element.

I would want to hear from the engineers. It's interesting what they are using to read/write XML and what parameters are being used.

If you rememeber (are aware of) that say templating.cfg was not parsed by XML parsers, at least on some stage. I doubt that at this stage IWOV practices that, but still I am curious. Because, say, DCT engine was making a short form for empty tags.
