Installing Black Ice Printer Driver

We are currently on MB 4.5.3 and are going to upgrade to 4.6.1. I noticed in the install and upgrade documentation that the black ice printer driver can not be done via Remote Desktop, it has to be done with VNC or NetMeeting. The other option is to physically log on to the box.

2 questions:

1. Installling the printer driver with Remote Desktop in console mode, will that work? This gives you an RDP session but attaches you to the console session just like VNC or any other remote control software. Go to START > RUN: and type "mstsc /console".

2. If the above won't work, the other option is logging directly on to the box. The client uses Raritan to access the console KVM. I don't think this will be an issue, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

The Black Ice drivers require kernel-level changes which, among iother things, occasionally require changing policies to permit. I would strongly recommend downloading VNC (there are free implementations). One customer tried using ILO (Integrated Lights Out) with very difficult results. It is not impossible to get Black Ice into a wedged state in which it will not reinstall and it will not uninstall. I try to stay as close to what I know works as is possible!

Fair enough.

We installed the driver by logging into the server itself. We installed it as the user we installed MediaBin with, and all other 3rd party apps.
