Another NRS script question....

because of all the customizations we have here, security templates will not work to reach our goal. i'm trying to build an NRS script to force the users documents to be created with private security. So whoever needs it, i just add that script to their workstation. the script is as follows:

this works. however, we have users who log into citrix and not all of them need to create private documents. can the script differentiate a user by a group theyre in? i tried the following statement:

and it did not work. how can i say "if a user is in this group, apply this string"?

I did see another post up here that had a couple strings i was trying, but they didnt work....

do i need to use another script for that?

any help is appreciated, and any other suggestions of accomplishing this goal is appreciated....thanks!

It should be your business logic that determines what input from the database you need to evaluate the user's privilege to create the private document. For example, it can be the user's role, membership to a group, etc.

Once you have identified the info to query, I can check how you may query it from WorkSite via the API's.

what is considered the business logic? because i think the easiest thing from a non-developer perspective would be to just add users to a specific custom made group, like PRIVATE, and have the script determine if they're in that group which will force them to create private documents, but ONLY if they're in that group.

If that would work for you, then add the group. In scripting, you may then check whether or not the user is a member of that custom group. You should be able to accomplish that by getting a handle to the IManUser Object off of the database, i.e., getting the hande to the IManDatabase object by the returning value of the GetAttributeByID(0) Method, then the GetUser("username") Property of the IManDatabase Object. The IManUser.Groups.Contains("PRIVATE") Method returns a Boolean value indicating whether or not the user is a member of the group specified in the call.

Close. The .Contains Method returns a Boolean value, from which you should have add your decision logic, like so:

Ok, so this is the entire script i have running in the FileSave.nrs....3 things are being accomplished: mark the description field required, clear out the description if it starts with either a "(" or "E-mail", and what we're working on now with the private security. i added your script at the end and it doesn't seem to be working. does it not like the rest of the script? i tried putting it in newprof.nrs also and it didn't like that.

it looks like it's just not seeing that i'm in the group. when i rem out the lines and keep the original script, it works again. i've tried logging out a few times, switching users, adding different users to the group, removing them, etc.

I didn't realize you're doing this in filesave.nrs. I assumed this was in newprof.nrs. Also, I've just noticed your code is wrong: there is no such thing as calling just GetUser to get a user. The correct way to make that call is off of the database object once you have verified that the database object is present, like so:
db.GetUser("").

Another problem is that you're calling GetAttributeByID without it coming from an object; this method is exposed by a dialog object.

Also, you have On Error Resume Next error trap statement added before making any calls. This will never allow you to find out what went wrong and how to debug which calls failed to execute. It seems to be misused in this case.

In filesave.nrs, the FileSaveDialog.GetAttributeByID(AttributeID Enum value) cannot be used to return a database object; it can in newprof.nrs. But, you cannot use newprof.nrs to carry out your intended logic as this profile is used as a zoom-in/details dialog; thus its events do not get fired unless (1) the end-user presses the "Detail..." button on the EAI Save As dialog to bring up the new profile (zoom-in) dialog, or (2) the end-user presses the "Save" button on the EAI Save As dialog to commit the import. At which point, the ImportCmd from our client-side source code is executed which is associated with the new profile dialog, and as a result the newprof.nrs is run and its events are fired. So, this brings back to the fact that there is no good way to get a handle to the database from the Save As dialog. And if you cannot get the database object, you will not be able to get the user to check its group membership.

Must this be done at IManFileSaveCmd_OnInitDialog or can it be done at a later time such as PreOnOK or PostOnOK?

I'm also curious to know that why you would need to explicitly set the default security to private when, by default, each new document is already set to private.
