Installing OD on Windows.
RichieRich
I am currently installing OpenDeploy (Receiver) on a Windows 2k box and the Operation Server is located on a Solaris box. Where it request the Boot Strap user, should this user be the Administrator of the windows box or the root user on the Solaris box?
Example:
'root'
or
'domain\\BoxName\\root'
While I am at it, are there any gotcha's with installing a Receiver on a Windows 2k Box and having the Operation Server on Solaris?
-Thanks,

The bootstrap user should be local to your operations server. During the install it should have asked you what sort of operations server you are using (windows or unix). Since in this case your operations server is on unix then you will want a user that exists on that server.
The bootstrap user is only used to allow the admin gui to control the remote server. If you have an active root account on your operations server you could use that, but you do not need to. The user just needs to have a UID local to the operations server (or in an NIS domain which your operations server machine has access to).

Thanks,
So during the install I should select Unix for my operations server and use a uid which is a boostrap user. Would it be ok to just tell OD that our operation server is windows anduse a User of that local machine. I don't think we want to allow remote control of OD on our Receiver box.
Thanks for your help.

If your Operations Server / Admin Server is Unix - do not try to fool it with a Windows userid - simply enter 'root' - which is already the defacto bootstrap administrator.
However - keep in mind, if you will be using the OD Admin GUI for initiating deployments, monitoring deployments, and/or administering OD servers - you will want to make sure that whomever needs to be able to login and do those things - can.
This can be done with the bootstrap administrator as 'root' as long as someone can login as root and setup the rights for the other users on each of the servers (Windows and/or Unix)

Fyi, the latest version of the OD 551 Release Notes has a section called "Cross-Platform Administration" that explains how to configure for mixed Windows and Unix environments.
You should be able to get the document from the support site. The part number for the doc is 90-00-20-21-00-551-800B. The section on cross-platform administration starts on p. 21.
Cheers.
