SelectField and SelectInputField Tags

What is the difference between SelectField and SelectInputField Tags?

I have a List of strings I want to use to populate a dropdown list.

I am trying to leverage the existing tags but cannot seem to locate any tag library documentation.

Can you somebody provide me with the documentation or an example of how to use the tags with an external Collection?

I don't know if it makes a difference but I am using WSMP 5.0.
