Upgrading solaris 8 to solaris 10

Hi all,

We are planning to upgrade TeamSite 6.5sp3 to 6.7.1sp1. We currently have Teamsite installed on solaris 8. I see that solaris 8 is not supported with 6.7.1 and we dont want to do a fresh install either.

Can you tell me if it is possible to upgrade solaris first to solaris 10 (may be directly or upgrading to 9 firstand then upgrading to 10) and then upgrade TeamSite 6.7.1sp1 on the existing machine? Has anyone ever performed something like this? If yes, then can you please specify the steps that would be involved in doing so or any reference documentation that describes about it?

This is acritical task and please raise a case with support eventhough this is achievable. To my knowledge, IW kernal files has to be taken backup before performing the OS upgrade.

Just make sure you have good working backups before you start, there are many ways to mess up an OS install...

A ways back, someone here did a Solaris and TS upgrade:
Upgrading TS 5.5.2 --> 6.1 and Solaris 8 --> 9

Looking at the notes, it looks like the following was done:

Note: This is not a defacto list of what needs to be done. Just an example of the steps so you can help plan Smiley Happy

Personally, I think it is easier to reinstall everything and have a backup for any "whoops" moments.

1. Solaris 9 installed to new root partition
2. Restore files from old root partition

# Preserve (and restore) the following files:

* /etc/group
* /etc/passwd
* /etc/shadow

# restore all /etc/ stuff including RC scripts. after looking at this, interwovens scripts are ****. they're linked wrong and in the wrong directories. i'll attempt to sort it out and suffer the consequences later when their upgrade scripts do the wrong thing.

* from the old /etc/ location:
tar cfp - `ls -1 *iw*` | ( cd /etc; tar xfp - )
* from the old /etc/init.d location
tar cfp - `ls -1 iw*` | ( cd /etc/init.d; tar xfp - ) chown root Smiley Surprised

ther /etc/init.d/iw*

# now do some proper linking
export num=10
for link in iw.reboot iw.server iw.samba iwod iwtcboot iw.local iw.processqueue; do

* /usr/bin/iwgethome
* wfs 228 in /etc/name_to_sysnum
* /etc/iw/iwfs_hijack
* /kernel/fs/wfs
* /kernel/fs/sparcv9/wfs
* /etc/defaulttomcathome
* /etc/defaultddhome
* /etc/dfs/dfstab
* /etc/defaultiw*
* /var/spool/cron/crontabs/*

# recreate /iwserver
mkdir /iwserver
# generate a new license key for TS server
# re-link backing stores after starting up
cd /iwmnt for dir in *; do ln -s /iwmnt/$dir /$dir done

3. Verified old TeamSite worked
4. Installed new TeamSite
