data deploy comfort level

We have purchased DataDeploy as part of the Teamsite suite. We have some concerns about how DataDeploy will perform in production.

Some of the questions being asked are:
Will it create locks on tables so users will not be able to access the webpages which need that data?

Will scripts timeout and hang the system?

What are the actual scripts it creates to do the deletes/inserts?

Other tools have been used to do this and dont work very well, why will this tool be any better?

So what I would like to know is:
Did anyone out there have any of these concerns and are now satisfied with the product?

I would recommend you to send these questions to IWOV support. They can provide you with accurate answers to these questions.

At one of my clients, we used data deploy, and it was able to handle all their requirements

I agree these are pre-purchase questions, however the people involved in purchasing it are no longer here, so the new DBAs are now concerned. Beside pre-purchase Sales Engineers will tell you what you want to hear in order to make the sale....So now that we bought it...does it really work, or does it have major limitations?

You have not dealt with many pre sales engineers before. The IWOV ones are, for the most part, ethical and honest. They may also not know all of the details of how a product works but will have a very good idea what it does and the major functionality.

DD, in my experience has been a good product when it does what it is intended to do, move content from DCRs and EA to various DB tables. If there is a failing it is when you have a very complex DB structure, many sub tables and foreign key constraints. This is often a DB design limitation as much as a DD functional issue.

DD works great 99% of the time and takes no user interaction. When there is a failure, it can be hard to debug due to the overall system complexity.

Finally you do not truly understand how DD works internally. Getting a really good overview would alleviate some of your concerns.
