i am not sure about the special characters used in the following command for acquiring a list of attributes from the specified DCR as $fileVPath

my @extAttribs = `${iwhome}/bin/iwextattr -l \"$fileVPath\" 2>&1`;

can smbody has any pointer to interpret special characters used in the command i.e. ' 2>&1 '?

The 2>&1 in command gives you the error if any as a standard output error.

You can also use the same command as following, however it will not provide you error details on execution.
my @extAttribs = `${iwhome}/bin/iwextattr -l \"$fileVPath\"`;

To be tad more formal, 2>&1 clause means "Redirect I/O Stream STDERR (File descriptor 2) into I/O stream STDOUT (File descriptor 1)"
