Web client UI customization? auto-login w/ guest account?

Our goal is to customize MediaBin to allow anonymous/guest users a way to look at the web client and just view images/files/portfolios - A few questions...

1) How do we customize the MediaBin web client UI with different branding/etc? we would always want to change some of the options available too (i.e. remove "add" functionality, etc). do you copy the existing .asp files and make changes to those? is there a better way to do it?

2) how do we enable web users to login to mediabin w/ a guest account with view only access? i.e. something like this - http://xxxxxxxxxxxx/MediaBin/Main.asp&login=guest

iwov told us in a meeting both were possible - however, i dont see any customization guides like there are for TS on the support site.

You would treat MB web client customizations like any other asp development project. Whatever the best practices of your organization are wrt that you can use the same.

I have not verified if this is still good for MB4.6.1 but it should still hold good (mostly).

To use the same userid and password to authenticate all users you have to do a few changes in default.asp

Edit the following to specify the domain name and server name

const c_DOMAIN = ""
const c_SERVER = ""

Add the following (new) lines of code

strUserId = "userid"
strPassword = "password"

const c_FolderGUID = "GUID of your root container"

Edit the following:

if (strURL = "") then strURL = "Main.asp"

to

if (strURL = "") then strURL = "Main.asp?container={" & c_FolderGUID & "}"

ok these look promising - thanks - but these appear to be global changes, we want to leave one instance as-is and just have a special view for guests with different branding and the auto-login. is that still possible? the KB appears to have me overwriting all the images

Yes it is possible. In fact we have customers doing it. You can manually set up the web client in a differnt virtual directory and change these in that. Then give that virtual directory address to the users. You can also set up the same on a different server.

could you clarify what exactly the "GUID of your root container" is? when i mouseover the folder i want to send the automatic login to, is that what you mean? i.e. something like 5573E7B5-02FE-4C61-8891-4EA0CD71DF9D? i didnt see anything in the docs per this variable. is this customization you have me doing in the docs?

also, are you saying i should isntall another copy of the web client? or can i just copy the current install and point the virtualization server to that for our customized view? thanks in advance!

Yes that would be the root container GUID.

This is not documented and you will have to maintain the code through upgrades. Its the same with any other customization that you do the MB web client.

I would suggest that you make a copy (or install a second copy) of the web client and use that vs. editing the gold copy so that you always have a reference.
