VM server

Is anyone running teamiste v6.7 in a VM. We are running it since our upgrade from teamsite v6.5 and we are seeing very slow performace. The CPU is always at 100% use. We are planning to add another CPU to this. If anyone has any ideas can you please let me know.

I think, iwov already certified some VM version. Are you using the same version? Can you check with IWOV Support which version do they support?

In case, you are running the same version, check your TS Server logs to see if they notify any performance issues.. Check if your JVM version on the TS Server is the same as supported by TS 6.7. Generally performance issues are caused by looping of java threads.. caused due to incompatible JVM\ OS.

I have seen this on my VMWare instance. I have 6.7.1 with TS and Search on 2K. It took many days of 100% CPU to build the index . I wonder if this is why IWOV insists one a separate seasch server. Smiley Very Happy

I also notice that the Y drive becomes empty, there appears to be an issue where the indexer is making the iwserver work so hard it gets out of sort. I use control panel every hour or so to restart TS server, index and search. Eventually it built the index and now everything is happy.

I think its important to distinguish between the various vmware products - workstation, server and ESX.

I have seen TS work on the first two. Performance will be slower than a standalone server.. obviously.

I prefer Workstation over Server for the cloning feature. ESX apparently has cool features like vmotion (instant realtime backup) - but I havent seen it in action with TS.

Likewise, we have used it on vmware workstation and server. We are using it for TeamSite 6.1, 6.5 and 6.7.1 on windows and 6.7.1 on linux without issue. We do not have search turned on though :-)

If you refer to the 6.7.1 Upgrade best practice document, it says
"iwserver may run out of memory during initial indexing" and the solution

• Implemented more compact representation of directory metadata in the Content store.

We have TS671 on Win2k and OD, WFM running on VMWare Player at an acceptible speed, but found best performance with a min of 2GB RAM.

Best Performance ? Hah, my system was crashing on less than 2 GB, that should be a minimum.
