Creating/adding nodes(replicants) xml files in perl

Hi,

I am trying to use the perl module TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

CRNode to add node in a dcr file specifically a replicant, but I am unable to do that it seems like whatever the DCRNode reads from the xml file only those fields in that xml file are editable. I cannot seem to create new nodes using set_inner_xml function.

Anyone have insight to how to approach this situation will be greatly appreciated

To do manipulation like this, we tend to use XML :: DOM.

I noticed that there all these other classes that come with XML:: DOM like
XML:: DOM::Node...If I just use the XML:: DOM are these other subclasses included there or I have to download those as well and say
use XML:: DOM::Node; instead of
use XML:: DOM

All are different as per the methods and properties in use.

I have found a way to do it with DCRNode module since this module can create children of nodes I just had to manipulate to do it that way I was thinking of doing XML:: DOM if this didn't work but since it did I do not have rewrite the perl lol...thanks anyways for the info

Could you please share along as what you have changed in your code while using DCRNode, to add another node in your DCR?

Every patented item is always available for reading.

well the thing it's kinda hard coded. To add a node u need to know the parent above that and know the other children as well.

I attached how I did it but this is like hard coding though u need to know the structure and node names and with that it's fairly easy use DCRNode with the info above

Since a lot of DCRs have been created using this DCT, i am writing a migration script which will add these nodes within a replicant to the DCRs using perl. I am trying to use the set_inner_xml method and have tried what has been suggested in the DCRaddnode.txt. But unfortunately, the xml is not getting set. I do not get any error, my parent node (i.e replicant) becomes empty. I have read the other posts in the forum, but this thread is the most similar to what i want to achieve. Please help!

If you want help - you need to show your code.
If the new nodes do not impact the structure (xpath) of existing nodes and are not required fields - you probably don't need to modify all the existing DCRs - just make sure your PT handles the optional existence of these fields correctly.

Also, my fields are not optional. These are either hidden fields or required fields.The field "OFFICE_LOCATION_MARKER" is a required field and the others are hidden fields. Some hidden fields have pre-populated values in them.

You appear to be using some custom code for parsing the DCR (

$tmplUtils->ParseDCR(), $tmplUtils->GetDCRItemValue()

, etc.) - which makes it difficult for us to know what you're code is actually doing.
Beyond that, I'd say you need to add a bunch of debugging / logging statements into your code so that you can see what is actually happening both before and after the various calls - especially the set_inner_xml() call.

The custom code is in place since the past few years, does similar stuff as the DCRParser.pm. I got that script working using the XML: Smiley Very Happy

OM, but am very curious about why the set_inner_xml didn't work. i had some print statements in place for the debugging purpose, i noticed that if i define my nodes as a "xml string" then it works fine. The problem is that when i concat $replicant->get_inner_xml and the xml string of the node to be added, it treats it as an empty string. I would really want to know what i have missed so that i'm aware about it later.
