remove whitespaces from generated Text file

Hi,

The tpl generates an text file. this text file has lots of white spaces in beginning of the data. How do I remove these whitespaces.

I am attaching the tpl file and the generated output for reference.

This is one of the reasons I prefer to write my PTs in Perl rather than using the XML constructs. All those newlines in the XML construct get carried forward into the output.

You can:

like it might be the easiest route for you to take - however, I do recall that iw_ostream doesn't explicitly set EAs on the output file (it might for the default buffer?) so you might have to add some code to your PT for that.

For performance issues, I have had to load some files (mostly JS) in a single line.

So I use Adam's 3rd option, build up an iwperl block and load everything into a variable, with plenty of whitespace (very useful in debugging). Then use a regex to remove the whitespace and use ostream to push that single variable to a file.

The other thing to note about ostream (in addition to the lack of EAs) is that ostream will change the name if you are previewing. Thus if you hardcode the name (say for top nav) to topnav.js, it will work great when you generate but if you were to preview (say you generate html and JS at the same time) the previewed HTML would not point to the correct JS.
