Perl Regular Expression Substitution

Hi,

I am having an issue in my TPLs where if I use the fololwing Perl regular expression substitution syntax, i.e.

$content =~ s/]+type="global"[^<>]+clause="(\w+)"[^<>]*>\w+<\/span>//ig;
[/html]

The following error is thrown:

An error occurred in utility daemon. Error code: 7. Please see details in iwutild.log.

There is nothing in the log.

This compiles and executes fine via command line.

Any ideas?

So when you run iwpt_compile it works ? Is the file it generates correct ?

Also are you trying preview or generate ?

Are you sure that snippet of code is what's causing the problems?
(note: the code doesn't show up 100% correctly in the forum - it is actually syntactically correct - there's a backslash before the 'w' in the parens, and there's a backslash before the forward slash to end the span tag - you can see if if you quote the original post)

Both preview and generate do not work.

It is that particular line of code that causes the exception because, if I remove it, it does not occur. The code works outside of TeamSite and also using TeamSite utilities from command line.

We figured out the issue. It apparently has an issue with the < and > in my regular expression within the iw_perl tags. For some reason, it seems to trigger interpretation by an XML parser and then it causes problems. I'll probably just do a workaround unless there is a known fix for this.

To illustrate this, add the following to a TPL:

$input = "Hello World!";
$input =~ s/Hello<\/b>/Hi<\/i>/ig;
#$input =~ s/Hello/Hi/ig;

[/html]

Note that you must remove the second line entirely to avoid an exception, not just comment it out. Also, the substitution doesn't seem to work at all if you have a < or > within the string so you have to delete the b tags to get it to work.

I would use a baclslash before each special character.

Then you are still missing CDATA Brackets somewhere else. Post complete PT that gives you troubles, not just bits and pieces

I also see # symbol and _ (underscore) at my end. Not sure if you escaped that... What is your basic intention for this regular expression? Maybe, we can have a simpler version of the regex

Ah, I got it. I copied and pasted your code clip and forgot the forum is removing the escaping. It works now.
