API design preferences?

Folks - I'd like to get perspectives from the IWOV development community on what they feel makes a good integration API. I'd appreciate comments on:

- learnability
- strongly typed (like Java) vs dynamically typed (like Perl and JavaScript)
- design patterns
- granularity of methods
- reducing the complexity of Web Services
