That somewhat depends on what exactly is meant.
No version of MediaBin has the ability to see linked images within an AI file since that would require access to the machine on which it was generated, and that can only be accomplished via a plug-in much as we do for InDesign and Quark.
That being said, self-contained AI files up to a certain release are actually in eps format and beyond that in PDF format. In MediaBin prior to 4.6 they will insert as "vector eps" or "pdf", but in 4.6 we take note of the extension and mark them as Adobe Illustrator even though we use the same logic to ingest as we do PDF.
There is an open issue we are working on that prevents ingest of really large .ai files.
What behavior are you experiencing now? Does the file go in but not have the file type you expected? Does it insert as a non-image or does it fail. When ingested what if any job messages are produced (job messages are produced every time a job fails and sometimes when it succeeds).

i can ingest .ai file along with its extention. But it inserted as non image while i preview it.Is ther any solution?

i generate .ai file using adobe illustrator CS3 and save the file without check the PDF compatible
2. After that i insert the saved .ai file into assert server.i can't able to view the image in the preview display
3.But i can preview in assert server if i do the following,
Download that file again and open with adobe illustrator CS3 and again save as by checking the PDF compatible check box.
3.I want to know, Is there any solution to preview the .ai file without check that PDF compatible box??????

That option needs to be checked. I do not think there is any other way.

No, in the current product there is no way to support it. I must say that I have only recently had it brough to my attention that there was such a checkbox which indicates that the vast majority of files we encounter do have it checked! I know with PSD files that one saves absolutely nothing by unchecking the equivalent button.
