couldn't spawn child process error

Hi All,

Thanks in advance.
We have a directory under iw-bin and accessing the ipl pages till yesterday. Suddenly from yesterday onwards, the teamsite is giving internal server error. The following is the url :

http://SERV/iw-bin/myDir/index.ipl

The same configuration is working in production environment. I rebooted the development system but getting the same issue. The log file(Error.log) is showing the following error:

[Mon Aug 20 11:06:14 2007] [error] [client 10.95.144.13] couldn't spawn child process: d:/iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/uploadprocess.ipl.

Any pointers?

a couple things to check:

from the shell run:

iwperl -c d:/iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/uploadprocess.ipl

in the browser run:

htpp://server/iw-bin/uploadprocess.ipl

1. I executed the script from shell, it is giving the correct output and there is no error.
2. From browser it is giving the same internal error. This error is not related to this particular file, any file in this directory is getting the same error.

Sounds like it could be an inode, memory, or server process thread issue. Do you have any other applications running on the TS server?

Also - is the path to perl in the #! line of the script correct? (presumably #!d:/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl)

is you shebang line correct ?

#!c:interwoven/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl (or whatever it is on your system)

Also when you ran it did you run iwperl or iwperl.exe ?

The scripts in this directory were working till yesterday. So I guess no problem with code. Even if I execute the same from command line it is giving correct output and there is no error. When I am executing from browser, we are getting this error.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

OK, so what changed with respect to the webserver ?

also, run this from a dos shell:

dir d:\iw-homeiw-perl\bin\iwperl*

and post the output

Hi Nipper, thanks a lot for your help. Yup, I tried to find the files, it is showing one extra file with the name iwperl. We don't know how we got this file. I renamed that file and open the page in browser. We got the result without any problem Do you have any idea, why we got additional file with same name like iwperl?

I just smelled that issue, it happens quite often.

delete the extra iwperl (without the .exe)

likely what happened is someone tried a Unix style redirection to a perl script.

Something like:

cat foo.xml > iwperl blah.ipl

and it created a file called iwperl
