Unable to connect to Content Server

Options

Hi there,

I have setup the AppWorks Gateway successfully on a dev box, and am now trying to connect it to Content Server 10. In the Settings page, I provided the Content Server URL as "http://localhost/OTCS10/livelink.exe" and clicked on the Test Content Server URL button, and the following message is shown:

Failed to Connect with Content Server

On inspecting the Ajax request, the Request URL is shown as:

http://localhost:8080/gateway/v1/setup?url=http://localhost/OTCS10/livelink.exe&otagtoken=f533add3-1a6e-48ba-af3d-07f2383e3994&cstoken=null&_=1385621993410

and the response from the gateway is this:

{"isCsOk":false,"csErrMsg":"Got ill-formed response from http://localhost/OTCS10/livelink.exe","isDbOk":false}

What is the format for the Content Server URL that needs to be provided for the gateway? Is this linked to any other configuration settings of OTDS or any other component?

Unforuntately, there is no mention of this setting in the documentation here.

  • Hi Frank. Thanks for posting your question on AppWorks Developer!

Are you running Content Server 10.0 SP2 Update 13? That is required for the AppWorks Content Server APIs.

    Best wishes,
    Werner

  • Does it work on 10.5 (latest RC)? I am getting exactly the same response. Although with all other problems I encountered with my setup, I am not too surprised...

I do not have OTDS installed on that server. Is it required?

  • Hi Werner, thank you for responding.

I am running CS10 SP2 Update 12 at the moment. Will move to Update 13 soon, but based on Maria's response above, doesn't look like that will help either. Anyways, I will wait and watch.

AppWorks is quite possibly the best thing that OpenText has released for developers, so keep up the good work guys!

  • Thanks Frank. The minimum supported version of Content Server is definitely Update 13. It also works with CS 10.5.

  • Hope you don't mind if I cover the basics first but...
The gateway on the same machine as CS, correct? and,
    CS is confirmed running? and,
The Content Service module has been installed and the DB tables have been created?

  • Yes, please check the things Dean mentioned.

"Ill-formed response" usually means the CS service is down or not fully set up. The error message means the response from CS was ill-formed, not that there is a problem with your URL (although getting, for example, a 404 page from IIS due to a typo would result in this message too).

We have also seen this when NTLM auth is in use on CS10 (OTAG can't connect via the usual port in that case), but I'm guessing this is not your issue if you have your own CS install on your machine.

To answer Maria's question, if I've understood it: CS does not have to be using OTDS authorization.

Note that connecting to CS this way is covered in the install guides for OT Everywhere 10 and (not yet released) Tempo Box 10.5. It is, at this point, supported specifically for those products.

  • Thanks for covering the basics, the missing link is the "Content Service module". Where do I find it? it doesn't seem to come with CS. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in the install/configure otag docs either. Maybe we need a "Basics" page :)

  • @Maria, it's described in the OTE 10 install guide.

We hope to post a how-to in the near future for surfacing the CS APIs directly in OTAG, as opposed to the OTE apis which come in a bundle for that product.

  • Oh boy. That fills quite a few gaps.
Got the module from KC, which requires tempo and social, and the whole shebang. Connection test passes now.

  • Is Appworks compatible with LL971 as well?

  • I got the "Content Service Module". I took at look at tempo/social and I'm not clear on what needs to happen next. If someone could point me in the correct direction, I'd appreciate it. I've got everything installed on a single windows box for testing (cs10.5/AppWorks 1.1.5) and they are working fine.

  • I found one of the required modules, mainly the Open Text Content Service, but it reports a dependency on social object. I tried entering socialobject (all one word) into KC search and only find patches. I don't even know the name of the module that this is to look it up. I even looked at the installation guide that speaks to installing the Content Service module. Absolutely no mention of the social object module. What is this and where can I find it? Standard search is not finding it.

Edit: OK, the social object ospace/module is found by searching on "Pulse". It can be found here:https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/cs.dll?func=ll&objId=46593175&objAction=browse&viewType=1
