Product: ProVision
Version: 6.1.x 6.2.0
Issue
- How should ProVision be configured to operate in a Citrix environment?
Resolution
Users must have a common mapped drive where their personal data is stored. The drive name must be the same for all users.
Licensing for ProVision in Citrix must use the Floating License Server. You cannot use single node locked licenses as you will consistently receive an error denoting the inability to open ProVision in a terminal session.
To install ProVision on Citrix Presentation Server x64 Edition, version 4.5, proceed as follows:
- Log in as a Citrix admin in a Citrix session and run the following 2 commands at a command prompt:
change user /install
change user /execute
This enables the installer to write registry keys to HKEY\_CurrentUser instead of HKEY\_LocalMachine (Citrix automatically routes this.) This allows multiple logins.
- Run the ProVision install file.
- When asked who to install this application for, select Anyone who uses this computer (all users).
- When asked what licensing type to use, select Client installation for server (floating license). At this point you are prompted for the address where the Floating License Server (FLS) is located. Make sure you set the proper value (for example: 192.168.83.70.) If you are using a different port for the FLS, for example 26990, specify it as follows: 26990@192.168.83.70.
- When asked for the install path, select the default path.
- When asked to specify where a user would like to save their data, enter the common mapped drive (for example, H:\\PVDATA\\v6xx\\.)
- Click Install.
- Copy all data from H:\\PVDATA\\v6xx\\ to the H:\\ drive of each user who will be using ProVision. DO NOT COPY connections.pvr, connections.bak, and connections.tmp because they will be created dynamically for each user.
Exceptions
When using ProVision in Citrix, users will encounter the following error upon opening ProVision:
ProVision has detected that the previous session was not properly shut down. ProVision will restart using its last known good configuration. Any connection settings made in the last session will be lost.
Testing indicates that the connections are not lost, and all data remains intact. However, Citrix admins may want to apprise their users of this behavior. After the first user session of ProVision is launched, the launching of subsequent sessions will generate the error mentioned above.
