PDF Attachment Won't Open In Web Browser

The information in this article applies to product: e-Work 6.x

Issue

  • When trying to open a PDF document attached to an e-Work form, the web browser never displays the PDF.
  • This will occur if Adobe Reader is not installed on the server running the e-Work web extensions (web server), and the client machine has the Adobe Reader 'Preferences' set to open PDFs in a web browser.

Resolution

  1. Install Adobe Reader on the server running the e-Work web extensions (web server).
  2. OR
  3. Make a registry change on the server running the e-Work web extensions (web server) as follows:

    In HKEY\_CLASSES\_ROOT\\.pdf, create a String with value "Content Type" and set the data value to "application/pdf".

    Or make a .reg file with the following 2 lines and double-click, or right-click and select "Merge".

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    \[HKEY\_CLASSES\_ROOT\\.pdf\] "Content Type"="application/pdf"
