The information in this article applies to:
Product: Metastorm BPM (e-Work)
Version: 6.x 7
Issue
- E-mail is being sent using SMTP. When a message contains a period ( . ) at the beginning of a line, the period is being removed during the sending process.
Resolution
This is a known Microsoft Windows problem with certain versions of the CDONTS.dll file. The version of CDONTS.dll included on the e-Work and Metastorm BPM CDs, 6.0.3939.0, has this problem. The workaround requires version 6.0.3940, which is installed by Windows 2000 SP3, and a modification of the IIS Metabase.
See the following Microsoft articles for more information:
Periods at the beginning of a line are removed when placed into the SMTP Pickup directory
HOW TO: Download, Install, and Remove the IIS MetaEdit 2.2 Utility
Although the Microsoft articles apply to IIS 5 specifically, tests indicate that they also work with IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003.
If Metastorm BPM version 7 is being used, the use of the mail library, Mail.xel, avoids this problem entirely. See the sample procedure SendMail that is installed with the Designer for an example.
