Issue
The password was changed for the Windows user account used for the Engine service, and now the Engine service doesn't start.
If the password has not been changed for the service
An error similar to the following is found in the Windows event log:
The Metastorm Process Engine service was unable to log on as .\\ework with the currently configured password due to the following error:
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
The user trying to start the service is presented with the following pop-up message:
Could not start the Metastorm Process Engine service on Local Computer. Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure.
OR
If the password has not been changed for the component in COM+
An error similar to the following is found in the Windows event log:
DCOM got error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. " and was unable to logon MyDomain\\ework in order to run the server: \{C4E0FA00-475D-11D4-85D6-00105AD8842F\}
The user trying to start the service is presented with the following pop-up message:
The Metastorm Process Engine service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.
Resolution
It is recommended that a password that never expires be used for the account under which the Process Engine runs. However, if it is changed, the following modifications need to be made.
Provide the correct logon password for the Engine service account.
Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services --> Metastorm Process Engine \[e-Work Engine\]. Right-click, select Properties --> Log On, enter the new password and click OK.
Provide the correct password for the for the Engine's identity in COM+.
Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Component Services > Computers > My Computer > COM+ Applications > Metastorm Process \[e-work\] Engine. Right-click, select Properties --> Identity, enter the new password and click OK.
