Best way to implement Search/Replace
thereIsNoSpoon
Hi,
What would be the best way to implement a global/search replace for TeamSite 6.7.1 on Windows 2003 Server? I'm not so much worried about the scripts but more so on the UI/process? So far I've come up with several ideas on how to implement it - can anyone chime in on which would be a "best practice" approach?
1) Manual/Administrator approach would be to run a script in the background on the OS that crawls TeamSite data directories recursively (optional switch) and does a find/replace on the DCR's themselves. For each DCR modified, that name is added to a list. And the end of the find/replace process, all the modified DCRs are submitted to a workflow so they can be pushed to staging.
2) Use a workflow which has an instantiation screen where the user enters the find/replace values. This was an end user (with proper can either select specific DCRs or whole directories) At the end of the find/replace, all the files are submitted to Staging.
3) Customize the Advanced search screen (and results screen) so that the ability to perform a search/replace is included.
Note that I have pretty much 0 experience with Search so this may be an easy task within it already but from what I've read, Out of the box search is good for searching only.
I'm open to suggestions on how to best implement this functionality. Also, has anyone implemented search/replace in any of the ways I've detailed? What problems did you run into?
Cheers!
