Preserve HTML entities when generating

When I view a raw DCR I see that all of the HTML entities are properly encoded (eg. &, <, >, etc.). However, when I use the DCR to generate an XML output file, the HTML entities are converted to the special characters they represent (eg. &, <, >) and it messes up the XML obviously. Is there a way to preserve these HTML entities during the generation process? Thanks.

You can probably play with the encoding to keep that, but that is not my strong suit. I am a brute force method type guy. So in this case I would write a Perl TPL and output the data myself in the form I want.

Yeah, I think that's actually what I want to do. I've been messing with the encoding and can't seem to get anything to preserve those entities. When you say you would write a Perl TPL, do you mean that you would use the tag and iwpt_output() or are you actually writing an .ipl that generates your desired output? If it's the latter, is there some documentation (I've found the docs on and iwpt_output) on writing a Perl TPL? Thanks.

You can do it either way but a combination would be the easiest. You *may* be about to use iw_ostream with encoding of none, but I am not certain. It would be worth trying.

If that fails then write a normal TPL, with iw_perl tags and have it write to the file itself instead of the TPL.

You would need to generate some dummy file and make certain that the EAs are properly set, but those are easy problems to solve.
