Single Quote Stored as Inverted Question Mark in Oracle 8.1.7.3

Issue

• When using supported Oracle drivers with Oracle 8.1.7.3, a single quote entered in a memo or text field is stored as an inverted question mark in the Oracle database.

Resolution

• This is a known bug in Oracle 8.1.7.3. The solution should be to either:

  1. Change the encoding in IE to UTF-8
  2. Upgrade to 8.1.7.4 or later (check the e-Work Supported Environments document).
