Object Reference Not Set To an Instance of an Object
The information in this article applies to:
Product: Metastorm BPM (e-Work)
Version: 6.x 7.x
Issue
- The message Object reference not set to an instance of an object is displayed in the web browser.
Resolution
If Metastorm BPM version 7.0 or later is being used, make sure Microsoft .NET 2.0 is registered correctly on the web server.
- Open a command prompt.
- Navigate to the .NET framework version 2.0 folder. For example: C:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v2.0.50727
- Run the following command: aspnet\_regiis -i
Note that each version of the .NET framework has its own specific aspnet\_regiis tool. Be sure to use the copy of aspnet\_regiis.exe found in the version of the framework that you want to register.
If the above does not resolve the problem or is not applicable, and if the web extensions are running on Windows Server 2003, open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and drill down to Default App Pool. Right-click and select Recycle.
If this resolves the immediate problem but the problem recurs, right-click on Default App Pool and select Properties. On the Recycling tab, configure the server to recycle worker processes more frequently. For example, you might set the processes to recycle daily at noon and midnight or set them to recycle every 35000 requests.
